621 Inc. develops controls for a wide range of both industrial and mobile OEMs. The Big Picture When we consider a project, we include not just the design - but also the manufacturing and support. Making a design decision that reduces parts count by a dollar - but adds two dollars to the cost of ownership is certainly not the way to do things - but we see it all the time. There is a growing chasm between design and manufacturing that we refuse to support. We take a modular design approach, but we consider how these modules influence each other in the real world. We also understand that service people may actually need to get at things. We understand that there needs to be a method of providing phone support to persons with less than perfect knowledge of the system. Sometimes an LED can save the day. Experience Our years of experience working as the “Electronics Department” has provided us with a rich, broad and deep understanding of an extraordinary range of varying applications. With many specialists available, we can typically provide more expertise over a much broader range of technologies than could be provided by an in-house team. Our knowledge of solutions – both new and old - in unrelated industries can often be applied in a novel way. We have people that have been doing this stuff for 30 years - they know first hand how to pass the “tests of time”. Continuity Our ability to continually challenge our staff with new projects is a major contributor to our low turnover and accumulated experience. The best in-house developers often get bored working within a limited scope for extended periods of time, and seek other opportunities to enrich their career. In-house talent that is content to work in the same area year after year – may not be the most effective resource for keeping your product current. Trust We prioritize our customers’ interests above or equal to our own. When we see an opportunity to improve efficiency or functionality, we consider this from the customer’s perspective first. This strategy has has earned us a highly valued position of trust with many of our OEM clients. Creativity We are known for our original and insightful solutions. The broad range of projects that we work on presents a very attractive opportunity for creative thinkers, curious minds and explorers at heart. We have a creative and fertile environment that encourages original work. We have a reputation for novel solutions that redefine the state of the art. Agility We select tools based on flexibility. We can prototype just about anything electronic or mechanical in-house quickly. In addition to our state of the art software tools, we have a broad range of electronic assembly and machine tools. We are unaware of another company with a similar range of in-house capability. Quality you can take for granted We are subjected to surprise inspections from regulatory agencies and to date we have never recorded an infraction. Over the years we have received a few suggestions that have been acted upon immediately. Benjamin Franklin once said that “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” We have embraced this philosophy and find it to be the best defense against Murphy. We understand the cost of downtime and we consider doing it right to be the shortcut. Leverage OEMs appreciate integrated solutions that provide a single point of contact when support is required. By taking responsibility for an integration step that an OEM is hesitant to do in-house is a tremendous benefit that makes them comfortable tackling projects that might otherwise seem too complex for their in house expertise. Procedures One size does not fit all – we are pragmatic – we do not apply overly complex procedures to projects that do not warrant them. But when warranted we provide full traceability of every detail. Standards By knowing and correctly applying industry standards, we often find ourselves designing to standards that some of our clients were unaware of - and opening up new opportunities for them.
